Like so many public entities, the West End Library is a living institution.  It is a source of information, education, and recreation.  It was created by the people and for the people: the library changes to meet the needs and demands of the community it serves.

The West End Library is a safe and comfortable place to meet, to introduce children to various methods of learning, to attend free programs about a wide variety of topics, and to use written materials, audio-visual materials, and public computers for work, life-long learning, or fun.

While the traditional function of the library as a place to use and borrow books is still valid, the West End Library also provides downloadable audiobooks and e-Books for people who prefer to read their books on computers or on portable electronic devices such as MP3 players, smart phones, or e-Readers.

An easy-to-use comprehensive website allows people to visit the West End Library as well as the other two libraries in the Union County Library System. Information about practically every topic — from aardvarks and autos to zucchini and zumba — is available there from trustworthy sources.

Free computer classes are offered for basic skills such as using e-mail and online auction services and applying for jobs online.

The West End Library offers separate reading areas for children and adults, as well as knowledgeable staff members who are eager to help with searches of information.  Tax forms, genealogical materials, health materials and community-specific information are provided regularly.

The West End Library also partners with area schools and nonprofit groups to offer educational, information, and recreational programs.
